Basic Facts about Silk Road

The Silk Road refers to an ancient network of trade routes connecting China and Mediterranean Sea. The concept of Silk Road was first brought up in the book China, written by the German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen, who made seven expeditions to China from 1868 to 1872. The Silk Road was formed during China’s Han dynasty (027BCE-220CE) and was firstly famous for the lucrative trade of silk The Silk Road not only brought about the prosperity of commerce along the route, but also promoted the cultural exchange among different civilization, like China, India, Persia and Europe. In June 2014 UNESCO designated the Chang'an-Tianshan corridor of the Silk Road as a World Heritage Site.
