Hi James,
We really enjoyed our vacation in China. After everything was arranged and numerous emails I send double payment, just click twice. So what, I was so excited. Making double payment and I even didn't know it. Soon I received email from China Travel Depot and in the email they informed me that refund is on the way for the extra payment I have made. In no time refund was posted to my credit card.
The trip to Potala Palace, one of the Wonders of the World, is amazing. Luckily it was not destroyed during the Chinese Cultural Revolution like the monastery in Rikaze. Plan to spend a full day inside. They open and close different parts of the monastery to tourists from time to time so it might be worthwhile to revisit every few years. Too bad photography of the interior is restricted so you can only take away memories. They charged 100RMB for tourists but only 1RMB for Tibetans and hawkers hustle tourists around the entrance. The smell of the yak-butter candles permeates that air.
The guide made our stay memorable and it would be difficult to distinguish, especially since we spent more time with Shirley and Jimmy. In each case, we felt that the guides were dedicated to making our visit great. While we only spent one day with Lucy, she was greatly concerned about a plane delay that forced changes in our itinerary and lunch venue. They all did their best to accommodate and not just lead us.
All in all the China Travel Depot exceeded our expectations (I was worried once I sent the money from Australia no one would be at the airport to greet us once we got to China!) and I would gladly recommend them to others.
