Chinese Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival and Japanese Sapporo Snowing festival, Canadian Quebec Winter Carnival, Norwegian Oslo Holmenkollen Ski Festival are known as the world’s four major ice and snow festivals. It was founded on 5th Jan, 1985, and now, this day has become a grand festival to Harbin people.
The festival often begins on 5th Jan, and lasts for about a month according to the weather and activities schedule. In the Ice Disney land which was built on Songhua River, the Harbin Ice and Snow World and the Stalin Park display ice sculptures; the Sun Island hosts Snow Sculptures garden party and the Zhaolin Park helds grand scale ice lantern garden party. All of these are a part of the ice and snow festival. During the festival, there are also Winter Swimming Competition, Ice Hockey Game, Snow Football Match, Alpine Skiing Tournament, International Ice Sculpture Competition, etc.
