About 40-minute drive east of Suzhou or one hour drive west of Shanghai, the "Paris of the Orient," lies Zhouzhuang, the "Venice of the Orient," close and small enough for a quick day trip from Suzhou or Shanghai. Although there are other towns in China such as Tongli, dissected by streams, rivers and canals, Zhouzhuang is the most famous such "water town" nowadays.
