Yichang Weather

Yichang lies between the middle subtropical zone and northern subtropical zone. The climatic feature of this region is that the four seasons are clearly demarcated. Spring and autumn are longer than summer and winter. It's hot in summer and there's much rain, while it's cold in winter and there's little rain. The average temperature in autumn is higher than that in spring. In summer there are rich storms. The rainy season is June and July, which is also the hottest period.

The river valley in winter is warm due to the northern Daba mountain ranges block the cold air. Yichang usually has a high concentration of rainfall in summer accompanied by rainstorm, strong wind and hail sometimes. Yichang is well-known for tea and orange nationwide due to the mountainous vertical climate, sufficient sunlight, abundant rainfall, mild winter and cool summer characteristics. Spring is the best time for traveling to Yichang.

Characteristics of four seasons
Spring (Mar.12th –May.20th)
The spring usually started at the mid-March. Influenced by the warm and cold air, precipitation increases significantly compared with winter and the temperature rises rapidly.
Summer (May.21st -Sep.27th)
The temperature in summer is relative high and rainfall is concentrated. Influenced by the monsoon from the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean in early summer, there will be an annual plum rain season lasting over 20 days.
Autumn (Sep.28th-Nov.26th)
Autumn comes slightly late and is the shortest reason. After an autumn rain in late September, winter winds gradually enhance and cold air comes fast with large temperature difference between day and night. The amount of precipitation accounts for 20% of the total annual amount.
Winter (Nov.27th –Mar.11)
The temperature declines gradually and fog increases obviously when autumn changes into winter. The precipitation is the least accounted for 6.1% of the total annual amount.
