Suzhou is a city on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Lake Taihu in the province of Jiangsu, China. The city is renowned for its beautiful stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens which have contributed to its status as a great tourist attraction.

Air Transport

 

Although Wuxi Shuofang Airport and Guangfu United Airlines Airport serve as two municipal airports, and the State Council approved of the construction of an airport exclusively serving Suzhou in 2003, air transportation from Suzhou continues to be conducted primarily at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport in Shanghai.

 

Railway

Suzhou is conveniently located on the Jinghu Railway linking Shanghai and Nanjing, the provincial capital, to both of which there is hourly railway service. Suzhou Railway Station is among the busiest passenger stations in China, having 139 trains stopping daily. The Station is currently being renovated and expanded to serve the needs of the future. It will possibly have similar designs like the Shanghai South Railway Station and Beijing South Railway Station. T-Series Trains only take 45 minutes to Shanghai and an hour and half to Nanjing.

 

Expressway and Highway

 

The 8 lane cross section of the Huning Expressway.The Jiangsu-Shanghai Expressway connects Suzhou with Shanghai, alternatively, there is also the Yangtze Riverine Expressway and the Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway. In 2005, the new Suzhou Outer Ring was completed, linking the peripheral county-level cities of Taicang, Kunshan, and Changshu. China National Highway 312 also passes through Suzhou.

 

Water Transport

By water, Suzhou is connected with Zhangjiagang, Luzhi, Liujia, Changshou and Shimonoseki, Japan.

 

Metro

The Suzhou Metro is currently being constructed, it consist of two independent lines, one running East<->West and one running North<->South serving Suzhou Industrial Park and Wuzhong Dirstrict. Two lines are scheduled to open in 2011.

 

Bus

 

Most of the public buses in Suzhou are automated collection buses. Please drop the changes into the box near the bus door and move to the back door to wait for your getting down stop. The bus with air-condition usually charge at least CNY 2, the rest charge at least CNY 1. There are six tourist bus lines which covered almost all the attractions in the city area of Suzhou. We recommended all the tourist bus lines as follow for your convenience.

You 1 East Line: Lingering Garden, Guanqian Street, Huan-Xiu Shan Zhuang, Yi Yuan Gardens, Xuanmiao Taoist Temple, Suzhou Embroidery Factory, North Temple Pagoda, Silk Museum, Railway Station

You 1 West Line: Tiger Hill, West Garden, Lingering Garden, Railway Station

You 2 Line: Tiger Hill, Railway Station, Silk Museum, North Temple Pagoda, Humble Administrator’s Garden, Suzhou Museum, Suzhou Embroidery Factory, Guanqian Street, Garden of the Master of the Nets, Canglang Pavilion, Panmen Gate

You 3 Line: Railway Station, West Garden, Hanshan Temple, Suzhou Amusement Land

You 4 Line: Railway Station, Silk Museum, North Temple Pagoda, Guanqian Street, Yi Yuan Gardens, Canglang Pavilion, Tangyan Tomb, Mu Du

You 5 Line: Lion Grove Garden, Humble Administrator’s Garden, Railway Station, Panmen Gate

 

Coach

Suzhou is an open gate of Jiangsu Province to Shanghai and Zhejiang Province.  And the highways through Suzhou, including Jiangsu-Shanghai Expressway, the Yangtze River Expressway, the Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway, improved the transport communication between Suzhou and its peripheral county-level cities.

There are four coach stations in the city. All the following information is provided for your reference.

Hangzhou

Suzhou South Coach Station is located on East Nanhuan Rd. Buses No. 29, 30, 31, and 101 run to the station. Tourists can get to Shanghai, Kunshan, Jiaxing, Zhangjiagang and Hangzhou, etc. by coaches depart from the station.

Suzhou West Coach Station is situated on Changjiang Rd. Bus No. 3 is running from Suzhou Raiway Station to Suzhou West Coach Station. In spite of the coaches to Changshu, Zhangjiagang, Kunshan, Nantong and Wuxi, etc, coach service from Suzhou to Anhui Province, Henan Province and Shandong Province is offered at this station.
