                                 Dalian Transportation

Unlike the heavily touristy areas in China (i.e. Beijing, Xi'an, and Hangzhou), which contain numerous palaces, temples and museums, that emphasize their long history and rich culture, Dalian offers a totally different experience. Furthermore, it has an incredibly convenient transportation system, which connects to numerous cities in China as well as other countries.

 By air

Zhoushuizi International Airport:
Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport is approximately 10 kilometers from the city center. Taxis are located to the far right side of the airport terminals; it is approximately a 20 minute taxi ride to the city center. Bus lines, also travel from the airport to the City Centre (such as No’s. 516, 532, 701, 710, 9).
Dalian Jinzhou Bay International Airport (under construction):
Construction of the new airport began in 2008, and the fist phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2013-2015. Once completed the current Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport will be converted into a cargo airport.
By train
Harbin-Dalian Railway Passenger Line (Harbin High Speed Rail):
The Harbin-Dalian railway passenger line travels south from Harbin to Dalian, with the total length of railway reaching over of 904 km, and the traveling speed of more than 350 km per hour. There are four railway stations in Dalian, which are Dalian station, Dalian North Station (under construction), the new Wafangdian Station and the new Pulandian Station.
Shenyang-Dalian Railway:
The Shenyang-Dalian line is one of the six main arteries of transportation in China and the main stations of this line are Dalian station, the new Dalian North Station (under construction), Golden State Station, Pulandian station, and Wafangdian station.
By ship
Dalian port has connections with more than 150 countries and regions, and there are daily flights to Yantai, Weihai, Penglai, Tianjin Port and many islands of Changhai County.
Dalian Port Terminal is located east of the City Centre, if traveling by bus take; NO.801, 13, 11 from the City Centre. Dalian Port is very large and there are frequent port buses connecting the waiting room and Boat Quay, however you must be in the waiting room half an hour before departure.
By bus
The bus timetable is fairly consistent; with the first buses leaving from around 04:00-4:30, and the last buses departing around 22:00-23:50, the interval time is usually 3-8 minutes. However in peak hours, buses run every 1-2 minutes. Furthermore the city also has two double-decker sightseeing bus lines exclusively for tourists.
You can pay by swiping a public transport IC card or by inserting the correct amount of change; bearing in mind the machine does not give change. Riding rules for most buses: Enter via the front door and getting off via the rear door.

By subway & rapid rail
Old (archaize) trams, new light rail tram, and Dalian rapid rail transits (“Dalian rapid rail” for short) are the four main modes of public transportation in the city, (not including buses). The current total operation mileage is approximately 86.75 km. Routes in business include NO.201, 202 tram track; Line 3, 7 light rail, as well as the subway line 1, 2, 8, 11 which are currently under construction.
