Pingyao Transportation
Transportation in Pingyao is pretty convenient to meet tourists’ needs. You can arrive at Taiyuan by plane or you can take a train to Pingyao directly. In the county, various transportation tools are for choices.
Airline:
The nearest airport to Pingyao is in the southern area of Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province. The airport is less than half an hour’s drive away from central Taiyuan. You can take a bus to go to Pingyao from Taiyuan bus station in about 2 hours. There is a ticket office of civil aviation nearby, but online reservation of air tickets is strongly recommended.
Railway:
The railway station locates in the northwest of Pingyao. You can take the train to neighboring cities and you can arrive at Pingyao by train from Beijing, Taiyuan, Xian or other large cities. Some local rickshaws are available near the train station by which you can get in the Ancient County in ten minutes. It’s very cheap and convenient.
Highway:
It’s very convenient to take a bus to go back and forth between Taiyuan and Pingyao through highway. You can get on bus every 15 minutes. And as long as you are in Taiyuan, You can find buses heading various cities at Taiyuan long-distance bus station.
Buses:
Buses are easily available in Pingyao. The lines are not abundant but definitely enough for tourists to go around the whole county. They usually don’t work at night but in holidays, bus time schedule can change to meet different needs.
Other than that, sightseeing buses in Pingyao Ancient County are also recommended. They are very safe and environmental friendly. You can take a sightseeing bus to visit every tourist spot in the county.
Taxi:
You can surely take taxies in Pingyao. It’s pretty cheap compared with large cities and they charge more from 9pm to 6m.
