Chongqing Transportation

Chongqing is located in the intersection of the central and the western regions in China. Chongqing is known for its rapid development in railway, waterway, highway, and airway and pipeline transportation. In addition, it is also widely acknowledged as the largest industrial and economic centre in south-western China, Chongqing City is a popular destination for travelers.

By air
There are three civil airports in Chongqing which are Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, Wanzhou Wuqiao Airport (regional airport, which is located in the Three Gorges Reservoir area), and Chongqing Qianjiang ZhouBai Airport (under construction). When one visits Chongqing, tourists’ land at Jiangbei Airport this is because all the main flights depart to more than 40 large and medium-sized cities across the country. Jiangbei Airport is located in Lianglu Town of Yubei District in Chongqing which is approximately 23 km from the city centre.
By train
There are six railway lines in Chongqing they are Chengdu-Chongqing Railway Line, Sichuan-Guizhou Railway Line, Xiangfan-Chongqing Railway Line, Chongqing-Huaihua Railway Line, Suining-Chongqing Railway Line and Wanzhou-Dazhou Railway Line. Furthermore, there are three train terminals in Chongqing City; they are Chongqing Railway Station, North Railway Station (formerly known as the Longtousi Station) and South Railway Station. The first one is located in Yuzhong District and the second one is located in Yubei District which was built in 2006 with a better environment and internal facilities. The only flaw of the North Railway Station is that it is far away from the city centre and the traffic is not very convenient. As for South Railway Station, it is located in Yangjiaping and the passenger departing areas consist of two floors. Passengers leaving the station from the upper floor can take buses heading to the city centre outside the station while the lower one directly connects to light rail station of line 3 (under construction) and to the coach bus terminal.

By ship

From 2005, there was no ordinary liner from Chongqing city to other cities along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River except a daily passenger liner to Yichang city departed at 22:00. The boarding address is "Chongqing Port Passenger Station" in Chaotianmen Dock where buses such as NO. 401, 102, 120, 262, 272 are located. Imagine what a great time it would be to enjoy the sight of the Three Gorges and the natural scenery along the way to Yichang, you will love it!
