                                     Lhasa Transportation

Lhasa is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region and is also recognized as “the City of Sunshine" all around the world. Lhasa is a pure place where you may imagine that you are in the heavens, as the sky is absolutely blue. With the white clouds just above your head which seems as though you can reach it with your hand is breath taking. It is also a city filled with many historic sites and famous relics waiting for you to explore.

By air
Many travellers choose to fly from Chengdu to Lhasa because of the large amount of flights which fly back and forth daily between these two cities. There are also fixed flights from Beijing, Guangzhou, Xining, Chongqing and Xi’an to Lhasa every day. In addition, international flights such as Nepal to Lhasa are also available.
Gongga Airport is the international airport of Lhasa which is located 98 km from Lhasa City in Gongga Couty. There are airport shuttle buses which go back and forth between the airport and the city centre which has a total of roughly 40 minutes running time. In addition, departure time from the city to Gonggar Airport is at every 6:30-7:30, 8:00-8:30, 9:30-10:30, 13:00-13:30.
Special note: May through to October is the tourist season and the tickets for leaving Lhasa can be are very difficult to get a hold of, especially because of the Shoton Festival. It is to be advised that you buy your return ticket in advance before you arrange your journey.
By train
The station is located in DuiLongDeQing County which is southwest of Lhasa at an altitude of more than 3600 meters with a total distance of roughly 20 km to the Potala Palace. Lhasa city and the railway station are connected by an asphalt road which makes it possible to go back and forth by bus NO.91. Also there are trains that depart from Lhasa to cities such as Xining, Lanzhou, Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the first railway line of Tibet and is the highest railway in the world.
Traffic in the city

Beside the buses and taxis, there are three special modes of transportation in Lhasa they are SUVs, bicycles and tricycles and they can all be rented out. Realistically you won’t need a SUV when traveling in Lhasa city, but if you are planning to do nearby scenic spots of Suburban County, hiring a SUV may help out a lot. As to bicycles rental, it will be incredibly convenient and enjoyable for tourists riding a bike around the city centre to look at the attractions Lhasa has to offer. The tricycle is the most famous of vehicles in Lhasa, which can take two people at a time. In the olden days, tricycles were all over the streets of Lhasa, but now they only exist in the east and northern area of the Potala Palace Square. Taking these traditional tricycles will be an amazing experience and well definitely be highly remembered within your trip of Lhasa.
