 | Shennong Stream Shennong Stream, a tributary of the Yangtze River, rises in the southern part of Shennongjia Natural Reserve. It joins the Yangtze at Xirangkou in Hubei's Badong County. With crystal clear steam flows swiftly from north to south through deep gorges, a sampan tour will allow you to experience a speedy adventure along this newly opened unspoiled river. The section of the river earmarked for this game is twenty kilometers long. An arrow-like sampan glides past the four-kilometer-long Mianzhu Gorge and then enters the main stream of the Shennong. The boat glides over the cobble-strewn riverbed with its bottom often banging against the stones. It is not without risk yet exhilarating. It is thrilling to battle with the nature. The landscape on both banks of the river is unique and tranquil, and the water is clear. You would have deep impression of the originality, simple and unsophisticated, natural interest and pour for drifting in Shennong Stream. |
 | Xiling Gorge Xiling Gorge in, the last of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze, it measures 75 kilometers. The whole Gorge area is covered with high mountains, gullies, dangerous shoals and hidden reefs of various sizes. The best-known perilous shoal is Qing Shoal. It's formed by collapsed craggy cliffs. Surging waves and rapid currents churn over the shoal embedded with rocks and stones here and there, and then drop two meters in elevation. Ships go downstream over the shoal at an arrow speed, but up the shoal it's as difficult as climbing a steep hill. In the gorges there is a break of 35 kilometers of open valley, so the gorge is actually 40 kilometers long. In the past, the Xiling Gorge used to be a dangerous part of the Yangtze for boat people because of its numerous dangerous shoals, reefs and whirlpools in the river. But thanks to efforts made in dredging the waterway after liberation in 1949, especially since the completion of the Gezhouba Dam Project, this part of the Yangtze has become a safe and beautiful waterway.
The most famous historical sites, cultural relics and natural scenery in this area are the Huangling Temple and the Sanyou Cave. |
