 | Dr Sun-Yat Sen's Mausoleum The mausoleum of Dr. Sun, the great revolutionary forerunner of china, is situated at the southern foot of the Purple Mountain. The mausoleum began its construction in the spring of 1926 and was completed in the spring of 1929. It covers an area of 80,000 square meters, and is 73 meters above the ground and 158 meters above sea level, with a 392-step granite stairway leading up to the memorial hall. The layout of the structure is designed in liberty bell. |
 | Confucian Temple South of the city center, the Confucius Temple in Nanjing is located on the bank of the Qinhuai River. Built in Song Dynasty, it is the place of worshipping and offering sacrifices to Confucius. Now it becomes the center on commerce and tourism with the Jiangnan (southern bank of the Yangtze River) Ming and Qing Dynasty's architectural characteristic after its recent expansion, renovation and restoration. Accomplished the secondary reconstructing project on the basis of its original scale in 1997, the dainty snacks street, Wang's and Xie's old residences in Wuyi Lane and the Oriental Art Courtyard been added to increase the culture atmosphere in the temple area. |
 | Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum This tomb of Zhu Yuanzhang (1328-98), founder of Ming dynasty, is the model for Ming and Qing dynasty emperors in Beijing. Zhu Yuanzhang is the only Ming dynasty emperor to be buried in Nanjing. UNESCO recently funded its renovations and touchups and made the site a World Heritage Site. However, the tomb descriptions still remain only in Chinese. The tomb sits in the Ming Tower, a rectangular tower in the main part of the tomb. One of the other main buildings at the mausoleum, the Sacrificial Palace, was built in 1383 and houses memorial tablets. |
